Tuesday – Catriona will be back with another Plant Sale next Tuesday 13th June at 10.30am. (I think I said 10am in an earlier email but no sales until 10.30am please)Beautiful healthy plants and all proceeds go to the U3A.90% of the plants will be different types to those on sale last Tuesday – some architectural statement plants planned and another member has also donated 4 very large potted established hostas. Huge thanks to Catriona for all her work and her generosity!
One Pot Cookery
Reminder to those who have booked that there will be a One Pot Cookery Session on Monday 12th June at 11am.
The Drop-in IT Clinic
If you have an issue with your phone, tablet, Ipad or Laptop then this is the session for you.
Some local teenage school kids have committed to coming down to U3A and doing a one-off hour-long Drop In help clinic for those with IT problems.
These guys are ‘professionals’ and should be able to help you with emails, getting online, scams, working out where your pics have disappeared etc etc.
PLEASE come along and give them some problems to solve!

Art Lovers Trip to Dublin
The Art Lovers will be going on a trip to Dublin on Tuesday 27th June.
They are travelling to Dublin to the Chester Beatty Library in the grounds of Dublin Castle for a private tour of the galleries and their extensive collection of prints, drawings and manuscripts. The cost of the tour is £10, payable in advance.
Travel will be on McGinley’s coach, leaving outside Sainsbury’s at 8.15am and returning from Parnell Square at 5.45pm. Travel is free for over 65.
Lunch at the Silk Road Café in the Library.

Camera Club Exhibition
The U3A Foyle Camera Club are wonderful at displaying wide ranging collections of photographs all through the year on the notice boards in U3A Foyle.Currently they have an extra eclectic collection hanging in the Extension area in the building.Please take a moment the next time you are in to have a look.The group is anxious for more members to join them in the new term.If you have any interest in taking pictures, film, digital or cameraphone you should meet up with the group – they are a lovely group, not at all scary or ‘expert’.More details will be in the new Prospectus in July but they will be meeting on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays in the Board Room.

Suggestions for September Classes
If anyone has any ideas for new classes or groups PLEASE let me know as I am starting to draw up the prospectus for September.I have secured a tutor for a Drawing class and hopefully we will be able to offer a new Printing class too.I have had a request for Glass Making and Jewellery making classes so I am already investigating those. Keep the requests coming.Suggestions for the Local History talks are also welcome – we had some great ones this year and some days out too so if there is somewhere close that we can visit send me an email so it can be included.
My Waiting Times NI
Patients regionally can now use a new online system to check how long they are likely to wait for a specialist hospital appointment.
The initiative has been developed to improve and centralise the information already publicly available to patients.
In this first phase, patients can find out the average waiting times for a first outpatients hospital appointment across the different clinical specialties in each Health and Social Care Trust area.
The webpage, known as My Waiting Times NI, will be expanded over time to also provide the latest waiting time information for procedures, treatment and diagnostics.

Power NI website research testers needed
Power NI would like to hear what older people think about their website!
Power NI wants to ensure that their website meets the needs of real people, finding information on energy plans and tariffs.
They are looking for older people to take part in an online research session from the comfort of their home.
If selected, they’ll be compensated for their time with a £50 e-gift voucher, which can be spent at a large range of retailers.

Digital Health Technologies
Ulster University are researching user acceptance of health digital technologies, including apps, robots, and in-home care technologies.
Initial results show that most older adults agree that digital health could support healthy ageing, however concerns related to the security and privacy of data were also highlighted.
The researchers have shared a survey that takes less than twenty minutes and they would really appreciate the input of U3A members. The closing date is 12 June 2023Click on this link to take the survey now.

BBC Antiques RoadShow – Call out for Volunteers
The BBC Antiques RoadShow is coming to Derry on Monday 31st July where it will conduct a full day of filming for the programme.
There are a number of volunteer roles available to people who may be interested in being on set and helping out.

Carer Poverty Commission
The Carer Poverty Commission, run by Carers Northern Ireland, is running an online focus group on 16 June 2023 (11am – 12.30pm) with unpaid carers from rural areas in Northern Ireland to understand their experience of poverty and financial hardship.

Concessionary Fare Consultation
The Department for Infrastructure (DfI) is considering making changes to the Concessionary Fares Scheme.
This Scheme provides free and discounted public transport for some groups of people, including older people and people with disabilities.

ARC 3k Colour Dash
ARC’s annual Colour Dash will take place on Saturday, June 10th, 2023, as part of their #MoreThanThat campaign.
This year’s event is a fun, flat 3k run or walk that promises a splash of colour and an amazing community vibe.
Each participant will receive a run pack on the day, including a white ARC T-shirt, a colour packet, sunglasses, and a bottle of water.
Food options are available, including hot food provided by Lo-N-Slo, face-painting for the kids, and music from River Radio.
